How a reply stops a campaign on every channel
A reply by email, LinkedIn or WhatsApp stops that lead's later steps on every channel. How replies are detected, and the limits.
Last updated
In FollowThroo, when a lead replies on any channel, their remaining campaign steps stop on every channel: an email reply stops the LinkedIn follow-up, and a LinkedIn or WhatsApp reply stops the next email. The lead shows Replied in the campaign, and the reply lands in Inbox.
A reply stops the lead in every campaign they were already in, not only the one that wrote to them.
What counts as a reply
| Channel | Counts as a reply | How soon FollowThroo sees it |
|---|---|---|
| An answer to an email FollowThroo sent: it belongs to the same conversation, or it comes from the lead's own address with "Re:" and the exact subject | Connected mailboxes are checked about every 5 minutes | |
| A message from the lead's number | As soon as Meta delivers it | |
| A message from someone you sent a LinkedIn message, or a connection request with a note, in the last 30 days | When the desktop app checks your LinkedIn messages, so only while it runs |
A new email from the lead that doesn't answer yours shows in Inbox as New message — not a reply to a campaign and doesn't stop anything.
If someone answers with just "stop" or "unsubscribe", they are opted out, the same as clicking the unsubscribe link, and no campaign contacts them again. See Bounces, unsubscribes and opt-outs.
Carry on after a reply
To keep going after someone replies, put a Condition before the next step: If the lead has Replied, Then (yes) Continue. The sequence carries on, and a later reply stops it again unless another such condition handles it.
Limits to know
- The reply has to reach FollowThroo first. A step that falls due in the minutes between someone replying and FollowThroo reading it can still go out.
- A reply that arrives just as a step is being sent may not stop that step. The steps after it are stopped.
- LinkedIn replies need the desktop app. While it is closed FollowThroo can't see them, and it only looks for replies from people messaged in the last 30 days.
- A mailbox that can't sign in can't be read. If the Email card in Channels says Reconnect needed, replies to that mailbox aren't seen until you reconnect it.
- Automatic replies can count. An out-of-office message that answers your email in the same conversation is treated as a reply and stops the sequence. To try that person again later, add them to a new campaign.
