Transfer ownership of a workspace

Hand a FollowThroo workspace to another member: what moves, what stays, how plan cover changes, and what to do if the owner has left.

Last updated

A workspace has exactly one owner, who controls billing, people and deleting it. Often the person who set it up isn't the one who should own it, so the owner can hand it to anyone already in the workspace. Both of you confirm with a 6-digit code we email, and nothing changes until you both have.

Hand it over

  1. Invite the new owner first if they aren't in the workspace yet, from Settings, then Team.
  2. On Team, click Transfer ownership…, choose them, read what changes, and click Email me a code.
  3. Enter the code from your email. They're told in the bell and by email.
  4. They open Settings, then Privacy & data, click Email me a code to accept, and enter their code. Until then you can cancel, and they can decline. An offer expires after 7 days.

What changes

  • They become the owner. You become an admin.
  • Mailboxes, the LinkedIn account and WhatsApp or Meta connections you set up stay yours and keep working.
  • The plan stays with the workspace. If it renews automatically, it's still charged to the card that paid for it until the new owner changes plan.
  • A transfer can't start while the workspace is scheduled for deletion, and a deletion can't be scheduled while a transfer waits.

Plans that cover several workspaces

Grow and Scale cover more than one of the owner's workspaces, so cover follows the owner. Before either of you confirms, the dialog and the accept screen say what happens: whose plan covers the workspace afterwards, whether it needs its own plan, and which other workspaces gain or lose a slot. The transfer itself charges nothing. Workspaces on a plan set up by FollowThroo are transferred by support.

If the owner has left

If the owner can't receive the code any more, email support@followthroo.com from a mailbox on your company's own domain, with your GST certificate or a signed letter on letterhead naming the new owner. We give the old owner 7 days' notice by email, then make the change ourselves. Deleting a workspace also takes a code: see Export your data, delete a workspace or your account.

Nobody from FollowThroo will ever ask you for a code. Codes work once, for 15 minutes; if one doesn't arrive, check Spam, then resend it after a minute.
